LOCAL ATTRACTIONS

For local events in Pembrokeshire click here

Beaches:

The sandy beach of Porthselau is within a 5 minute walk down a public footpath across the local farmer's field and the renowned 'blue flag' surf beach of Whitesands (click here for a great 'Virtual views' of Whitesands bay and other beaches and views on the St David's online site)

Whitesands beachs is a 20 minute meander along either the beautiful coastal path or the public bridleway running alongside the property.

Many other beautiful beaches are also a short car journey away and a summary of these can be found here on the National Park Beaches Guide.

Walks and boat trips:

The house is located on the Pembrokeshire coastal footpath and there are walks in all directions - to Whitesands beach and St David's Head one way and towards St Justinian and Ramsey Island the other. Whitesands beach and St Justinian is the departure point for Voyages of Discovery boat trips around Ramsey Island nature reserve and the notorious 'Bitches' of Ramsey Sound. If you are an angler or would like to have a go try Porthgain boat trips.

Pembrokeshire Coast National Park:

Predominantly coastal, the park has some of the most beautiful coastline in Europe. Offshore islands, the largest of which are Ramsey, Skomer, Skokholm, Grasholm and Caldey are internationally known for their seabird and seal populations.

The waters around Skomer make up one of only two Marine Nature Reserves in the British Isles. The coast varies from high cliffs to long open beaches. There are sheltered coves, harbours, mud flats and dunes. In contrast are the wooded slopes of the Gwaun Valley and the windswept expanse of the Preseli Hills.

There is a modern Visitors Centre at the top end of St David's with good parking and is well worth a visit at the start of your holiday. Click here to go to the National Park web site for further information on 'Park Life'.

Local outdoor activities:

There are a number of local outdoor pursuits centres locally including Preseli Venture in Mathry offering offering coasteering, sea kayaking, and surfing to families and individuals, and comfy 5 star eco lodge accommodation and TYF in St David's which also offers climbing, kayaking, surfing and coasteering (see BBC article on Coasteering) and will rent you all the necessary equipment.

Golf Courses:

There are three local Golf courses 1. St David's City Golf Club (Nine hole links course) 2. Haverfordwest Golf Club (18 hole) 3. Priskilly Forest, Haverfordwest (9 hole). St David's Golf Club is very close while the clubs at Haverfordwest is a 30 minute drive away, more details here.

Horse Riding:

There are a number of places locally but the most exciting is East Nolton Stables near Druidston (the other side of Newgale Beach) which offers riding for individuals and groups all year round.

Shopping, craft centres etc:

The centre of St David's is less than 2 miles away and houses the beautiful Norman Cathedral and medieval Bishop's Palace. It is the smallest City in the UK with a permanent population of < 2,000. It does however have a good range of small shops, including a great delicatessen and a new supermarket which is open 7 days a week. There are a number of nice restaurants and a couple of pubs which provide food at both lunch and dinner. See here for more details.
